A Quaker Town Five Miles From Our Yard

Friendswood began in 1895 as a Quaker colony, became a city in 1960, and spent the decades after 1950 turning farmland into subdivisions. It sits in two counties, Galveston and Harris, with Clear Creek running through it. Our Pearland yard is about five miles away in a straight line, so a Friendswood address is not a long drive for the crew.

Most people who call us from here do not need a couch picked up, because the city does that. They call because the pile is the wrong shape for city pickup: half is allowed and half is not, or there is more than one pickup day can move, or it has to be gone before a closing.

We do same-day or next-day when the schedule allows, and we tell you which one on the phone.

What the City Takes and What It Leaves

Friendswood contracts with Waste Connections for garbage, recycling, and green waste. This is how the city's Collection Days and Items page lays out heavy pickup, as of October 2026. It goes out on your first garbage day, once a week.

The City Takes

Appliances, furniture, mattresses, water heaters with the water drained, computers, and TVs of reasonable size.

Takes, With Conditions

Carpet cut to 5 feet or less, rolled, dry, under 50 pounds. Swing sets cut to 5 feet, 300 pounds total. Refrigerators and freezers only with the Freon tag. Doors cut in half.

The City Leaves

Tires, fencing, railroad ties, dirt, cast iron, projection TVs, and hazardous items like gas, oil, and liquid paint. Also construction material: boards, 2x4s, sheetrock, paneling, windows, cabinets.

Bags and cans cannot weigh over 50 pounds, because the crews load by hand. Green waste has its own limits: clear bags under 35 pounds, and bundled limbs no more than 50 pounds, 18 inches across, and 5 feet long.

That works for a normal week, but not for a garage cleanout, a tear-out, or a yard of fallen limbs. A crew makes sense when the pile mixes allowed and not-allowed items, when you do not want to saw a door in half, or when the date matters more than the schedule. Chemicals, wet paint, fuel, and propane need a proper drop-off no matter who hauls the rest.

Typical load: dump trailer heaped with tree limbs and brush
Typical load: limbs and brush, well past a 5-foot bundle.

Ranches, Wooded Acres, and Newer Builds

Local housing guides describe the oldest homes near the original town center and many one-story ranches from the 1960s and 1970s on big wooded lots. Sunmeadow has homes dating to the late 1970s. Heritage Park, on the Harris County side, was built out from the 1970s to the mid-2000s and has its own pool and golf course.

Houses that old have had decades to collect things: a shed losing its shingles, a garage shelf nobody has emptied since the kids left, an attic of boxes from two moves ago. It is rarely one load. Tell us which rooms when you call.

Typical load: weathered red backyard storage shed under mature trees, ready for teardown and haul-off
Typical load: a worn-out backyard shed. It comes apart, then it goes on the trailer.

The Forest of Friendswood is different. Most of its 600-plus brick and stone homes went up between about 1998 and 2005, many on lots of an acre or more laid out around existing woods, under an HOA with an architectural review committee. That canopy means limbs, and an acre means a long walk to the street, so we load from wherever the pile is.

West Ranch, the newer master-planned community along Clear Creek and Chigger Creek, has homes of 3,000 to 5,000 square feet and an association of its own. Those calls tend to be move-outs and garage overflow, and nobody wants a stack at the curb, so we load straight out of the garage.

Flood Repair Debris Is Its Own Category

After a run of storms, Friendswood residents started building houses up off the ground, and Hurricane Harvey in 2017 was the big one. The city issued 1,787 Harvey repair permits that year, and by February 2018 it had collected about 145,000 cubic yards of debris, Community Impact reported.

Then the extra pickup ended. On March 4, 2018, the city's contractor stopped taking bagged storm and construction debris, and residents were pointed to the do-it-yourself options: haul it to the landfill, pay a contractor, rent a portable dumpster, or hire a debris removal company. Construction material is still on the city's not-taken list.

The city has since bought more than a dozen flood-prone properties and planned drainage work in places like Forest Bend and Imperial Estates, as reported in 2020. So when someone is pulling up wet flooring or gutting a kitchen after a leak, a burst pipe, or the next big rain, the debris lands in the one category the city does not collect.

We load tear-out by hand and haul it off, or you can rent a roll-off for a longer project. We are not a restoration company. We take the debris already out of the walls.

What Leaves Friendswood Houses

What falls outside a normal week of city pickup.

Overflow Furniture & Mattresses

More than one pickup day can carry, or needed gone sooner.

Untagged Fridges & Old TVs

Refrigerators and freezers without the city's Freon tag, plus bulky TVs and monitors.

Storm Limbs & Brush

Too long or too heavy for the city's 5-foot, 50-pound bundle.

Flood & Remodel Tear-Out

Sheetrock, cabinets, flooring, windows, and the boards that come out with them.

Sheds, Fences & Swing Sets

Sheds and fence lines the city will not collect, and swing sets too big to cut down.

Estate & Move-Out Cleanouts

Whole houses, garages, and attics, old streets to new builds.

Two Ways to Get It Gone

If you want it gone without lifting a thing, book the crew. If you would rather work at your own pace through a remodel or a long weekend of sorting, we rent 14 and 20-yard roll-off dumpsters in Friendswood. Our crew versus dumpster guide walks through which one costs less for what you actually have.

Bigger jobs are routine: estate cleanouts, hoarding and full house cleanouts, tenant turnovers, and storm debris, all discreet and fully insured. Landlords, see how we work with property managers.

Things Friendswood Folks Ask Us

When is heavy pickup in Friendswood, and what does it skip?

Per the city's page, as of October 2026, Waste Connections takes heavy items on your first garbage day, once a week: furniture, mattresses, appliances, and water heaters with the water drained. It skips boards, sheetrock, cabinets, tires, fencing, and dirt. For a pile that has both, call or text 832-425-7749 and we will quote the whole thing.

Can you take my old refrigerator without the city's Freon tag?

The city only collects refrigerators and freezers once a technician has removed the Freon and tagged the unit. If yours has no tag, skip that errand and book us. We take most refrigerators and freezers on a crew job. Chemicals, wet paint, fuel, and propane stay a no for us either way.

My storm limbs are bigger than the city's green waste bundles. What now?

The city's limit for bundled limbs is 50 pounds, 18 inches across, and 5 feet long, set out on your first garbage day. Anything bigger, or a whole yard of brush at once, is a trailer load for us, and we load it from wherever it fell.

Will the city pick up flood-damaged drywall and cabinets?

No. Heavy pickup excludes construction material, including boards, 2x4s, sheetrock, paneling, windows, and cabinets. When the extra post-Harvey pickup ended in 2018, Community Impact reported that residents were told to haul it themselves, hire a contractor, or rent a dumpster. We load tear-out by hand, or you can rent a roll-off and fill it on your own schedule. Either way we are fully insured.

I am clearing out a parent's older house in Friendswood. Where do we start?

Decide what stays, then text photos of each room, the garage, and the shed to 832-425-7749 for a free quote. We do the lifting, work discreetly, and are fully insured. See our estate cleanout page.

Should I hire a crew or rent a dumpster for a Friendswood remodel?

If you want it gone without lifting anything, book the crew. If the work comes in bursts and you would rather load at your own pace, we drop a roll-off dumpster in Friendswood, 14 or 20 yards, and haul it off when you are done. Check your HOA covenants on how long a container can sit in the driveway. Our crew versus dumpster guide shows which costs less.
