A Quiet Grid With Very Full Attics
El Lago is not a place people pass through. It is a handful of streets off the parkway, mostly single family, mostly original, and it holds onto its residents in a way newer neighborhoods do not.
Which is the whole reason we get called. A house that changes hands every few years never really fills up. Somebody packs, somebody purges, and the attic gets a hard reset with each move. A house that has held one family since it was built has never had that. The Christmas boxes went up and stayed. The kids' furniture went up when they left and stayed. The paperwork, the luggage, the window unit that got replaced, the crib, the tools from a job somebody retired from. All of it went up one box at a time and none of it came back down.
Nobody did anything wrong here. That is simply what decades in one house looks like, and it is genuinely hard to undo on your own, particularly if the people who filled the attic are now the people who cannot climb into it.

So that is often visit one. We empty it to the slab, sweep it, and suddenly there is somewhere to sort the things you actually want to keep. From there people usually feel a lot better about the attic.
Going Through a Parent's House Is Not an Afternoon
When the house belonged to someone you loved, speed is the wrong goal. There is always a box that stops everybody in their tracks for a while, and there should be. We have learned not to stand around tapping a boot while a family works through it.
What helps is splitting the job. Let us take the volume, the furniture, the appliances, the attic, the garage, the things nobody is torn about, and give the family room to handle the rest at whatever pace it takes. Come back for us in a week or two if there is a second load. We would rather do two honest visits than push you into one rushed one.

Will you go up into the attic, or does everything need to be down already?
We go up. Pull-down stairs, a hatch in the hallway ceiling, a floored section over the garage, all normal. We hand it down and carry it out. The one thing we ask is that you tell us up front if the stairs feel loose or the decking is thin, because we will bring our own footing rather than trust somebody else's plywood.
I am clearing my parents' house in El Lago. Can you come back more than once?
Yes, and honestly most of these jobs go better that way. Nobody sorts a whole lifetime in an afternoon. A common pattern is one visit for the obvious volume, the garage and the attic, then a second one a week or two later for whatever the family has finished deciding on. You are not locked into anything by having us out the first time.
Some of it still works. Do you care what condition things are in?
Not really. Working or broken, it comes out the same way. We sort loads where we reasonably can rather than sending everything to one place, and there is a plain explanation of where it actually goes in our guide on what happens to junk after pickup. What we cannot take is hazardous material like wet paint, motor oil, gasoline, propane tanks, chemicals, or medical waste.
Can you clear out the carport or the detached garage too?
The contents, absolutely. Workbenches, half-finished projects, lumber offcuts, paint-splattered tarps, garden tools, and years of stored clutter stacked along the walls. What we will not do is take the structure itself down. We are insured to haul, not to tear buildings apart, so the carport stays standing and everything under it leaves.
The house is going on the market. Can you work around a listing schedule?
That is a lot of what we do here. Tell us the photo date or the first showing and we will work backward from it. If the agent wants the garage and the curb clear by a specific morning, say so when you call, and we will either commit to it or tell you we cannot.
