The City Route Works Until It Does Not
Clear Lake City has been part of Houston since 1977, so the city's Solid Waste Management Department handles the curb here. Next door in Nassau Bay or Webster, the rules come from a different city. For plenty of households the city route is fine.
We get the calls where the calendar and the mess do not line up. The garage filled up between pickups. A relative's house has to be empty by the end of the month. A remodel made more than a curb can hold, or a storm dropped something heavy on the fence.
Home base is Pearland, roughly 11 miles from Clear Lake in a straight line, so this is a real run and not a next-door stop. Same-day or next-day works when the schedule allows. We work the Clear Lake side of Houston but not inner Houston, so text us an address you are unsure about.
What Houston Takes and What It Leaves
The short version of the City of Houston heavy trash page, per the city's page, as of October 2026. Rules change, so read the original and look up your own day.
The schedule. Heavy trash comes every other month at eligible addresses, up to six curbside pickups a year. Items can go out after 6 p.m. the Friday before your day and must be out by 7 a.m. on it, just behind the curb. The cap is 8 cubic yards per set-out, about a minivan.
What it takes. Furniture, mattresses, bundled carpet, washers, dryers, water heaters, and clean limbs no thicker than 8 inches or longer than 10 feet. Refrigerators only with a technician's tag showing the refrigerant was removed.
What it leaves. Household garbage, electronics, paint, chemicals, dirt and sod, roofing and shingles, and construction or demolition debris. A contractor's debris is the contractor's to remove. Mix accepted items with refused ones and the city may skip the whole pile.
That last rule is where a crew earns its keep. If your pile is half sofa and half torn-out cabinet, we load all of it in one trip, from the garage or driveway, on a day you pick. The one thing we cannot take is hazardous material like wet paint, fuel, or chemicals. The city sends those to its Environmental Service Center.
Ranch Homes, Eighties Brick, and Newer Builds
Clear Lake City opened in September 1963 beside NASA's Johnson Space Center. The Houston side of 77058 has a lot of single-story ranch homes and two-story brick from the 1960s into the 1980s, plus a growing number of townhomes and condos.
Brook Forest finished building out around 1981, with homes from 2,000 to 4,500 square feet. Bay Glen followed in the mid-1980s. Bay Knoll has more than 600 single-family homes and wrapped up around 1990. Bay Oaks started in 1989 and ended with 1,150 homes on 690 acres.
In the older sections the job is often a house that has been collecting for thirty or forty years: closets, attic, garage, and a back bedroom that became storage. In the newer sections it is more likely garage overflow, a move, or a remodel. Bay Area Boulevard, El Camino Real, NASA Road 1, and the Gulf Freeway are the roads we plan the run around.

After the Water, Before the Next Pickup
Clear Lake is a brackish estuary that drains toward Galveston Bay, and flood history comes with it. The Clear Lake City Water Authority bought a former golf course and turned it into Exploration Green, a park with detention ponds designed to hold about 500 million gallons. Its board president estimated that around 150 houses that normally flood stayed dry in Harvey in August 2017.
We treat storm debris as its own kind of job. Ruined drywall and cabinets are construction debris, which heavy trash does not take. When the city runs a storm debris collection it announces it separately, as it did after Hurricane Beryl in July 2024. In between, a soaked house still has to be emptied.
After a blow, heavy trash takes clean limbs within its size limits, but keep them apart from other material or the pile can be skipped. We take it together: limbs, broken fence panels, and soggy furniture.
What Comes Out of Clear Lake Houses
A garage from the nineties, an attic from the seventies, a back bedroom nobody has opened in years.
Garage & Attic Clear-Outs
Decades of storage carried out of garages and attics, down to the slab.
Whole-House & Estate Cleanouts
Long-owned homes emptied room by room for a family, an executor, or a buyer.
Remodel Tear-Out
Cabinets, tile, flooring, and drywall that the city's heavy trash route will not accept.
Storm & Flood Debris
Limbs, broken fence panels, ruined carpet, and soaked furniture in one visit.
Dock Lumber & Lake Gear
Old dock boards, lawn furniture, and boating clutter from homes near the water.
Rental & Townhome Turnovers
Whatever the last tenant left in a unit, townhome, or condo.
Who Does the Lifting?
If you want it gone without touching it, book the crew. We carry it out and load it ourselves, so nothing sits out front. The Clear Lake City Community Association enforces deed restrictions in its neighborhoods, so check your own covenants before anything waits on the grass.
If you would rather work through a remodel at your own pace, we also drop roll-off dumpsters. The Clear Lake dumpster rental page has sizes and current prices, and this crew versus dumpster guide helps you pick.
Neighbors in Nassau Bay, Webster, El Lago, and Taylor Lake Village live in separate cities with their own pickup rules, and we run those streets too.
Things Clear Lake Folks Ask Us
I live in Clear Lake City. Doesn't the City of Houston pick up my junk for free?
For eligible homes, yes. Per the city's heavy trash page, as of October 2026, curbside pickup comes every other month, up to six times a year, capped at 8 cubic yards. Find your day with the city's lookup tool or the HTX Collects app. If you need it gone sooner, or the pile has things the city refuses, call or text 832-425-7749.
Can I set out a couch and leftover remodel lumber on the same pile?
That is how piles get skipped. The city takes furniture, but it lists construction or demolition debris, roofing, and shingles as not accepted, and a mixed pile may be passed over entirely. We load mixed piles in one trip, straight from your garage or driveway, as long as nothing hazardous is in them.
Can I haul it to a City of Houston drop-off center myself?
If you qualify, yes. None of the city's six Residential Drop-Off Centers is in Clear Lake. The one it calls Southeast is at 2240 Central Street, 77017. Bring a Texas ID plus a city utility bill or lease with a matching address, in a pickup or a trailer up to 10 feet. Check hours with 311. If that sounds like a whole Saturday, we do the hauling.
We are clearing out a house in Brook Forest that has not been touched in years. How does that work?
Text a few photos, or ask for a walkthrough if the house is too full for pictures. We look at the garage, attic, closets, and any shed, quote it free, and book a day. The crew carries everything out room by room, and anything still useful is set aside for donation where we can. Pull the paperwork and family photos first. We are fully insured.
Is storm debris the same thing as heavy trash?
Not to the city. Houston announces storm debris collections separately, as it did after Hurricane Beryl in July 2024, and heavy trash has limits of its own, including limbs no thicker than 8 inches. If you do not want to wait on either, we haul limbs, broken fencing, and ruined furniture together in one visit. Text photos to 832-425-7749.
Should we book the crew or rent a dumpster for a Clear Lake remodel?
If you want the lifting done for you, book the crew. If the work happens in bursts and you would rather load at your own pace, a roll-off in the driveway makes sense, and our Clear Lake dumpster rental page lists sizes and current prices. Call 832-425-7749 and we will say which fits.
